What is a Digital Communicator?

Digital Communicator
A digital communicator is one of the most commonly used devices. There are two main types available.

Stand Alone interconnects with a control panel at the customer's site and will only transmit the most basic information to the monitoring centre i.e type of alarm activation (intruder, fire, panic).

All ATA Security Systems incorporate the Integrated Digital System which forms part of the control panel. These systems can relay considerably more information to the alarm monitoring centre i.e. hundreds of events can be transmitted including: intruder, fire, duress, panic, day zone tamper, power loss, battery low condition, memory change, temperature control, special monitoring (machinery, glasshouses, security patrols etc etc).

In addition the panel will transmit zone and area identification which allows the monitoring facility to track an intruder through a premises. It will also identify the user/users who operate the security system. This is a very useful feature where the system is accidentally activated on opening or closing the premises as the security system will notify the monitoring facility that the user is on the premises and thereby prevent a false alarm being logged against the customer.

Garda Policy on false alarms is strict. Once the quota ( 6 calls in a six month period) has been achieved, response by them is likely to be curtailed. Another good reason why an ATA Security System should be considered.
