Automatic Smoke Detectors

Automatic Smoke Detectors
Automatic smoke detectors of both the ionisation and light sensitive types are covered by IS/EN 54 Part 7 : 1986. The former responding best to light smoke and thus able to react more rapidly to fires in the early stages.

Optical detectors, which are best suited to black smoke e.g. oil fires etc., respond more slowly to the light coloured smoke produced in the earliest stages of most building fires. Disposal of any defective ionisation type detectors however, may only be effected by licensed operatives through the unit distributors to whom such units must, by law; be returned.

Both heat and smoke type detectors are available in either an addressable or non-addressable design. With the former any alarm registered at the control panel identifies the actual detector unit and its specific location.

The latter types are identified only by zone i.e., the general area in which they are located.
