What is Proximity Reading Technology?

Proximity Reading Technology
From a physical viewpoint proximity is not susceptible to abuse in the same way that magnetic swipe technology is, because the readers are sealed potted units with no slot for the card. They can also function behind glass, plaster, cement or brick (depending on the range) and can therefore be hidden out of site.

A proximity system can use either a personal token, a vehicle token, or ISO size card.

In the proximity card or token is a tiny electronic chip plus an aerial.

If a reader has a range of 1 meter, then a proximity card can be worn on a clip or chain and there is no need to even present the card to the reader, the user simply has to walk up to the door(and reader) in question and if the proximity card is valid, the door unlocks automatically.

It is possible to embed specialist readers into tarmac so that authorised vehicles with proximity tags fitted underneath the vehicle can drive up to a barrier (in a car park) and operate it automatically if valid.
