What is Wireless?

Wireless Systems
This detection device is easy and quick to install, as there is no cable required, hence the name ""Wireless"". These systems are ideal where temporary coverage is required: during renovation, the advantage in this case is the flexibility of the detection devices, which can be moved around easily as the work progresses. In a permanent situation the following factors should be taken into account:

There are almost twice as many components required in a Wireless System than in a Hardwire System. Since a detection device requires a radio transmitter to relay information to a multi-tasking receiver, which is, inter connected to the control panel.

Because Wireless Systems operate on a radio frequency they are prone to interference or jamming. If a detection device is activated at the same time that jamming is occuring, the alarm is unlikely to sound there by reducing the overall level of security.

In order to conserve battery power, motion detectors operate a sleep period of approximately 3 minutes, each time they detect someone in their area.

Homes in remote districts sited some distance from the nearest neighbour or hidden from view are most in need of a sophisticated security system which is linked to a central station for around the clock monitoring.

Communication between the radio transmitters and receivers is one way only in a Wireless System at present, in other words the control panel can only receive information and cannot check or verify with the detectors.

Radio Transmitters have to be powered by their own batteries. Where a motion detector (PIR) is installed an additional battery is required. Batteries require regular replacement which adds to the overall costs in running the system.
